Baptism is a public declaration of your commitment to follow Jesus.
The word “baptism” has roots in the Greek language, meaning “to dip, dye, or plunge.” We go under water to symbolize the death of our old selves and come up into a new life in Christ. When Jesus died on the cross and came back to life, He conquered our death and sin. Our baptism is a symbol that we have died to our old, sin-stained life and now receive full, eternal life in Jesus Christ. Baptism publicly declares the salvation that we have already received.
“…anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Cor. 5:17 NLT
